Cooking Steps

Make the mash
1

• Boil the kettle. Half-fill a large saucepan with boiling
water, then add a generous pinch of salt.
• Peel potato and sweet potato, then cut into
large chunks.
• Cook in the boiling water over high heat until easily
pierced with a fork, 12-15 minutes. Drain and return
to the saucepan.
• Add the butter and milk and season generously
with salt. Mash until smooth. Cover to keep warm.
TIP: Save time and get more fibre by leaving the potato
unpeeled.
Little cooks: Get those muscles working and help mash
the potatoes!

Get prepped
2

• Meanwhile, finely chop celery, brown onion (see
ingredients) and carrot.
Little cooks: Don your goggles and have a go at
peeling off the onion’s outer layer!

Start the filling
3

• Heat a large frying pan over high heat.
• Cook beef mince (no need for oil!), breaking up with
a spoon, until just browned, 3-4 minutes.

Finish the filling
4

• To the pan with beef, add carrot, celery, onion,
herb & mushroom seasoning and braised beef
sauce. Cook until tender, 4-5 minutes.

Assemble & bake the pie
5

• Preheat grill to high.
• Transfer the beef filling to a baking dish.
• Top with mash, spreading it out evenly. Sprinkle
with grated mozzarella.
• Grill pie until browned, 5-10 minutes.
TIP: The grill cooks fast, so keep an eye on the pie!
Little cooks: Take the lead and sprinkle over the
mozzarella!

Finish & serve
6

• Divide homestyle beef and mixed potato-top pie
between plates to serve. Enjoy!
