Cooking Steps

1
  • Preheat oven to 180°C/160°C fan-forced. Line a 20cm square baking tin. Melt the butter in the microwave or in a saucepan.
  • To a large bowl, add the eggs, brownie mix, dark chocolate chips, melted butter and sea salt flakes. Mix until well combined.
2
  • Pour brownie mixture into the baking tin and spread evenly.
3
  • Bake for 25-35 minutes or until just firm to the touch but still a little soft in the middle. If you like your brownie more cakey and less fudgy, bake for longer. Allow to cool completely in the baking tin.

TIP: The brownies will firm up more once they've cooled.

TIP: To check if the brownies are done, stick a toothpick or skewer in the centre. It should come out with crumbs clinging. If you like your brownie more cakey and less fudgey, bake for an extra 5 minutes

4
  • Meanwhile, roughly chop candy cane. When brownie are done, sprinkle candy canes on top.
  • Once the brownies have cooled, slice into squares to serve. Enjoy!

Customer reviews

Review summary

Updated on Feb 2026
  • Flavour: Rich chocolate brownies with a pleasant minty flavour from the candy cane topping that wasn't overpowering.
  • Ease of prep: Some found the brownies didn't set properly, resulting in a liquid centre.
  • Suggestions: For a firmer texture, consider baking longer. When reheating, be aware that candy canes may melt.
  • Leftovers: The brownies kept well for an extended period, making them a good make-ahead treat.
