This magic recipe is made in a flash but tastes like hours of slaving away went into it. The classic combination of honey and soy speaks for itself. We’ve coupled this flavour with tender pork steaks for added succulence and veggies with an oriental twist for added nutrition and flavour.

150 g
white rice
(May be present: Wheat, Gluten, Soy.)
2
pork steak
Peanut Oil
1 clove
garlic
1 knob
ginger
1 bunch
Bok Choy
1
carrot
2 tsp
sesame seeds
(Contains: Sesame; May be present: Wheat, Gluten, Soy, Milk, Peanuts, Almond, Brazil nut, Cashew, Hazelnut, Macadamia, Pine Nut, Pistachio, Pecan, Walnut.)
1 tbs
honey
3 tbs
soy sauce (or gluten-free tamari soy sauce)
(Contains: Soy, Gluten;)
1 tsp
sugar
salt
pepper
Place the rice into a sieve and rinse it with cold tap water, the water will initially become cloudy, continue to rinse until the water becomes clear enough (it doesn’t need to be crystal). Bring a large pot of salted water to the boil. Add the rice and cook it for 10-12 minutes or until tender. Drain.
In a small bowl whisk the honey and soy sauce together. Marinate the pork steaks with half of the dressing and leave for 15 minutes aside while you start the prep on the rice and veggies. Heat some oil in a pan over a medium heat, add the pork to the pan and cook for 3-4 minutes on either side until cooked through, you don’t want the heat to be too high otherwise the honey and soy will burn. Remove, cover and leave in a warm place.
Heat the peanut oil in a wok over a high heat. Add in the garlic and ginger and fry until fragrant. Add the bok choy and carrot and cook for 2-3 minutes or until the leaves of the bok choy begin to wilt and the carrot is slightly crunchy. Add in the sugar and a good pinch of salt and toss through the sesame seeds.
Divide the rice between plates and then serve with the pork and the ginger fry. Dress your pork with the remaining honey soy dressing and enjoy! Did you know? Honey is the only food that contains the antioxidant “pinocembrin”, which has been associated with improved brain functioning.
