What is Penne Pasta Best For?
Penne pasta is best known for its ability to hold sauces well, not to mention its versatility in family and child-friendly meals. Similar to rigatoni, penne’s tubular shape and ridged surface provide plenty of space and texture for pasta sauces to cling to, making it perfect for both smooth and thicker sauces like alfredo and bolognese. The ridges and hollow tubes also stand up well to baking, making penne pasta ideal for casseroles, tray bakes and hearty meat dishes.
Penne is much better paired with these sorts of hearty ingredients and robust flavours than finer kinds of pasta, such as linguine, for example. Thinner noodles are much more suited for seafood-based sauces and delicate sauces or dressings, such as olive oil.
