These baked beans really live up to their name, both with their time in the oven where all the flavours mix and mingle into a moreish taste sensation, and with the gooey cheese, which you can mop up with the perfectly chewy ciabatta garlic bread.

Produced in a facility that processes eggs, milk, fish, peanuts, sesame, shellfish, soy, tree nuts, and wheat.

Cooking Steps

• Preheat oven to 220°C/200°C fan-forced. • Finely chop garlic. Roughly chop parsley leaves. • Drain and rinse butter beans. Drain sweetcorn.

• In a large frying pan, heat a drizzle of olive oil over medium-high heat. • Cook soffritto mix and corn, stirring, until softened, 6-7 minutes. • Add 1/2 the garlic and cook until fragrant, 1 minute.

3
3

• Add butter beans, All-American spice blend and tomato paste to the pan. Cook until fragrant, 1 minute. • Add passata, the salt, BBQ sauce and the water. Cook, stirring, until well combined, 2-3 minutes. Season with pepper.

• Meanwhile, slice bake-at-home ciabatta in half, lengthways, then slice each half diagonally across. • Place the butter and remaining garlic in a small heatproof bowl. Microwave in 10 second bursts until melted. Stir through 1/2 the parsley. Season with salt and pepper. • Brush garlic butter over the cut-side of the ciabatta. • Place ciabatta directly on an oven wire rack. Bake until golden, 5 minutes.

• Divide cheesy BBQ baked beans between bowls. • Garnish with remaining parsley. Sprinkle with pickled jalapeƱos (if using). • Serve with herby garlic bread. Enjoy!

Review summary

Updated on July 2026
  • Flavour:Ā Rich, cheesy, and full of BBQ and tomato flavour, this dish won over plenty of families and self-described bean sceptics alike. Some found the tomato or BBQ sauce a touch overpowering, so adjusting the balance to taste is worth considering.
  • Ease of prep:Ā Most found it very quick and straightforward to pull together, with minimal chopping and a simple cooktop-to-oven method.
  • Suggestions:Ā Adding a fried or poached egg on top was a popular move, and some stirred in an extra can of beans or black beans to bulk it out. A splash more BBQ sauce, a dollop of sour cream, or a side of corn chips or soft tortillas helped round out the dish for those wanting more depth or substance.
  • Leftovers:Ā Leftovers kept well and were enjoyed the next day, with one reviewer noting the ciabatta reheated in the microwave held up nicely. Others stretched the dish into nachos or extra lunches with great results.
  • Portions:Ā Several reviewers felt the serving size was on the smaller side and would have liked a little more, particularly the bread.
