Cooking Steps

Start the rice
1

• Boil the kettle. Half-fill a medium saucepan with
boiling water.
• Add jasmine rice and a pinch of salt and cook,
uncovered, over high heat until tender,
12-14 minutes. Drain, rinse with warm water
and set aside.

Get prepped
2

• Meanwhile, chop broccoli (see ingredients)
into small florets. Finely chop garlic, carrot and
brown onion (see ingredients). Cut tomato
into thin wedges.
• In a medium bowl, combine beef strips, Asian
BBQ seasoning and a drizzle of olive oil.
• Add broccoli and a splash of water to a
microwave-safe bowl, then cover with a damp
paper towel.
• Microwave broccoli on high until just tender,
2-4 minutes.
• Drain broccoli, then return to bowl. Season to
taste with salt and pepper. Cover to keep warm.

Fry the rice
3

• When the rice is done, heat a large frying pan
over high heat with a drizzle of olive oil. Cook
carrot and onion, tossing, until tender,
4-5 minutes.
• Reduce heat to medium, then add garlic and
cook until fragrant, 1 minute. Add cooked rice,
soy sauce mix and the sesame oil stirring well
to combine.
• Transfer to a serving bowl, season with pepper
and cover to keep warm.

Fry the eggs
4

• Wipe out frying pan and return to medium-high
heat with a drizzle of olive oil.
• When oil is hot, crack the eggs into the pan and
sprinkle with mixed sesame seeds. Cook until
egg whites are firm and yolks are cooked to your
liking, 4-5 minutes.
• Transfer to a plate and cover to keep warm.

Cook the beef
5

• Return frying pan to high heat with a drizzle of
olive oil.
• When oil is hot, cook beef strips in batches,
tossing, until browned and cooked through,
1-2 minutes. Remove pan from heat, return all
beef to pan, then add sweet chilli sauce and
toss to coat. Transfer to a serving bowl.

TIP: Cooking the meat in batches over high heat
helps it stay tender.

Finish & serve
6

• Bring everything to the table.
• Build your own bowl with veggie fried rice, sweet
chilli beef, steamed broccoli, tomato and sesame
fried egg to serve. Enjoy!

Customer reviews

Review summary

Updated on Aug 2026
  • Flavour: The sweet chilli beef and sesame fried egg were well received, though some found the overall dish mild or felt the components didn't quite come together.
  • Ease of prep: Several reviewers found the number of steps and the order of cooking a bit tedious, despite the recipe being rated easy.
  • Suggestions: Some found the rice soggy rather than dry and separate; cooking the rice with a measured amount of water and ensuring it is well drained before frying may help. A few also suggested reducing the soy sauce mix slightly to avoid oversalting, and adding a drizzle of sambal or chilli sauce for extra heat.
  • Leftovers: At least one reviewer enjoyed the meal the next day for lunch, and another noted the recipe easily fed five people.
  • Portions: The quantity of rice was noted by several reviewers as outweighing the beef and vegetables, so adjusting the balance to suit your household is worth considering.
  • Beef: Multiple reviewers found the beef strips tough, chewy, or fatty; cooking in small batches over high heat for no more than 1-2 minutes, as the recipe suggests, can help keep it tender.
