Cooking Steps

1
1

• Finely chop brown onion (see ingredients). • Trim green beans. • Grate carrot (see ingredients).

Little cooks: Don your goggles and have a go at the peeling off the onion's outer layer! Older kids, you can also help grate the carrot under adult supervision.

2

• In a large frying pan, heat a drizzle of olive oil over high heat. Cook pork mince and green beans, breaking up with a spoon, until just browned, 2-3 minutes. • Add onion and carrot and cook, tossing, until softened, 2-3 minutes. • Add garlic paste and cook, until fragrant, 1 minute. • Remove pan from heat. Add kecap manis (see ingredients) and the soy sauce, stirring, until just combined. Season to taste.

3
3

• Microwave mini flourtortillas on a plate in 10 second bursts, until warmed through.

Little cooks: Pop some oven gloves on and help warm the tortillas under adult supervision. Be careful, the plate can get hot!

• Spread each tortilla with garlic aioli. • Fill each tortilla with mixed salad leaves and sweet-soy caramelised pork. Sprinkle with crispy shallots to serve. Enjoy!

Little cooks: Show them how it's done and help build the tacos!

Review summary

Updated on July 2026
  • Flavour: The sweet-soy caramelised pork is a standout, with many families calling it a household favourite for its bold, satisfying flavour. Some found the sauce a touch too sweet or salty, and suggest using only half the soy sauce or adding a squeeze of lime to balance it out.
  • Ease of prep: This is a genuinely quick and easy one-pan meal that even kids and beginner cooks can confidently pull off on a weeknight.
  • Suggestions: The sauce can turn quite runny and make the tacos messy to eat — draining excess liquid from the mince before filling helps. Some reviewers also found that toasting the tortillas in a frying pan rather than microwaving them improved the texture, and a few added coriander, cucumber, or a squeeze of lime to brighten the dish.
  • Leftovers: Leftover mince reheats well and works beautifully tossed through noodles or served over rice the next day for lunch.
  • Portions: Several reviewers felt the pork mince portion was on the small side, particularly for hungrier households — adding extra vegetables like mushrooms or zucchini is an easy way to bulk it out.
  • Green beans: Opinions on the green beans are genuinely split — some loved the added crunch and extra vegetables, while others found them an odd fit for tacos and simply left them out or cut them smaller.
