Cooking Steps

  • Preheat oven to 240°C/220°C fan-forced. Cut potato into fries.
  • In a medium bowl, place haloumi and cover with water to soak.
  • Place on a lined oven tray. Drizzle with olive oil, season with salt and toss to coat.
  • Bake until tender, 20-25 minutes.

TIP: If your oven tray is crowded, divide between two trays.

  • Meanwhile, thinly slice brown onion.
  • In a large frying pan, heat a drizzle of olive oil over medium-high heat. Cook onion, until tender, 4-5 minutes. Transfer to a bowl, season and cover to keep warm.
  • Drain haloumi and pat dry. Cut the haloumi into 1cm-thick slices.
  • Wipe out frying pan and return to medium-high heat with a drizzle of olive oil. Cook haloumi until golden brown, 1-2 minutes each side (Cook in batches if your pan is getting crowded).

  • While the haloumi is cooking, bake hot dog buns directly on wire oven rack until heated through, 3 minutes.
  • In a medium bowl, combine slaw mix and the mayonnaise with a drizzle of vinegar. Season to taste.

  • Slice buns in half lengthways, 3/4 of the way through.
  • Fill buns with tomato relish, haloumi and charred onions.
  • Divide haloumi hot dogs and potato fries between plates. Serve with creamy slaw. Enjoy!
  • ELEVATE ME: If you added extra ingredients to this recipe, add gherkin relish and cheddar cheese to hot dogs. Serve with mustard mayo.
