New research today suggests that the daily grind has caught up with most Aussie parents - 78% of working mums report feeling somewhat or very stressed thinking about daily chores*.
Outside of work hours, as many as one in four parents (24%) spend up to 15 hours per week on household chores - equivalent to 33 days in a year! To put matters worse, the majority share of work around the house is done by one parent in 50% of Aussies families.
The research is commissioned with Pureprofile by leading meal kit provider,
HelloFresh, to understand the daily pressures of life admin and dinnertime, which has become another chore for many busy Aussie families. According to the survey, the top five most time-consuming household chores are 1) washing clothes and linen 2) cooking dinner 3) cleaning the kitchen 4) grocery shopping and 5) cleaning the bathroom.
Half of Aussie mums (51%) find cooking dinner for the family sometimes more stressful than going to work, but the majority of stress is driven by meal planning and preparation.
A quarter of parents (26%) spend up to four hours per week on meal planning, recipe research and grocery shopping. When it comes to dinnertime, meal planning and serving a nutritious meal are the top two triggers for stress; followed by grocery shopping, recipe research and finding a park at the supermarket.
